Former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, has expressed willingness to support Niger State-owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, IBBUL, in addressing the institution’s pressing need for more hostel accommodation for its students.

IBB, who received the IBBUL management team on a courtesy visit, led by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, hinted at providing assistance to alleviate the shortage of hostel spaces, which has been a significant challenge for the university.

The elder statesman noted that the shortage of hostel accommodation for students of the institution would soon be a thing of the past, saying, “we will do the best to assist the University.”

He appreciated the management of the university for the courtesy visit while praying for the university to continue to grow stronger.

Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, earlier in his remarks, told IBB that the university was in dire need of more hostel accommodation and called on him to come to its rescue in view of his immense influence in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that another Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund hostel intervention to the tune of N3.8 billion was in the offing for the university for the construction of both male and female hostels with 300 rooms each.

The Vice-Chancellor also briefed the elder statesman on the events of the past weeks in the university, which led to its closure.

“Hostel accommodation has become a major nightmare for students of over 19,000, of which over 7,000 are living off campus,” he stated.

The VC then thanked the former military President for the excellent services he is rendering to the country and humanity, especially IBB University, Lapai.

The VC’s team included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Muhammad Aliyu Bello; Registrar, Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki; and the University Librarian, Dr Abubakar N. Usman, among others.
