I Won’t Change My Philosophy Despite Man City Defeat – Amorim
Under-fire Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has vowed not to change his philosophy despite the team’s dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.
The Red Devils produced another disappointing performance to continue their poor start to the season as Erling Haaland’s brace and Phil Foden’s solitary strike condemned them to their second defeat of the season.
Despite the defeat, Amorim said he is not planning to change his philosophy.
He said: “I will do everything I can for Man United. This is my message to the fans. I’m suffering more than them I won’t change my philosophy. If they [INEOS] want it changed, you change the man.
“We are a big team and a big team in certain moments are big teams. If you look at our three goals we can avoid these goals. Doku with a lot of space, bounces go to Foden.
“In the second we started really well and to suffer that goal because we want too much to recover the throw-in. Then you have the chance to open the game with Bryan, a great save from their keeper. Small chances, and in the end against top teams small details will make the difference.
“We can avoid those goals. That was the biggest difference. We suffered goals where it’s clear that we can do better, especially the second one. You start the second half well. You are pushing for our goal to open the game. Even the 2v1 where Bryan could score. Those moments went for the opponent and then the third goal is hard to describe. So, we suffered goals that we can avoid.”
“The biggest difference is when we had transitions, we didn’t score. When City, especially in the second half, the game changed a little bit, we suffered transitions and they were better in that moment — and in the game. We can clearly avoid the goals. And that makes the difference in a game like this.”
The Portuguese manager has endured a torrid time at Old Trafford since taking over last October with just eight wins from 31 matches, seven draws, and 16 defeats in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola was delighted with Manchester City’s reaction in the encounter after their defeat to Tottenham.
He said: “We changed a lot in this transfer window, adding nine players, the core of the team. It is impossible to think about them and achieve what we achieved. The spirit, the body language, to fight altogether, to see the faces around the pitch. It’s a privilege to bring joy and some moments of happiness because I know how much the derby means.
“It is just one game. We did many good things against Tottenham. Today it means a lot, the players were so aggressive. Everyone was like a machine. We play Napoli on Thursday and we have to react and be less naïve. Last season and this season we have been so poor in those terms but the spirit is there and the captains are fantastic.”
The victory moved Man City up to eighth on the log with six points from four matches while Manchester United are languishing in 14th with the same number of games.
Guardiola’s men will return to action in the Champions League against Napoli on Thursday while the Red Devils will take on Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday.
