‘I see future in PDP’ – Akwa Ibom party chieftain demands Wike’s expulsion

The Chairman, PDP Advocate for Peace and Justice, PAPaJ, Dr Tom FredFish has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom would come out stronger despite the defections it suffered recently.

Recall that PDP in June 2025 lost Governor Umo Eno and other lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, APC, signalling a serious setback for the party in the state.

Fielding questions from journalists in Uyo on Monday, FredFish, who is a chieftain of PDP, assured that the party would bounce back.

He stressed that a rebuilding process has been initiated by committed members who still belief in the ideals of the party.

He, however, noted that the future of PDP is predicated on how it can resolve its internal wranglings and purge itself of some of the bad eggs who according to him “are not even members but members by association”.

Speaking on the defection of Governor Eno to APC, FredFish said though PDP was disappointed with the governor, it has since put the development behind it.

“PDP is still existing and the people remaining in PDP are people of integrity, people that are committed to the party, who know how to rebuild, who can build the party to become what it used to be before the exit of certain persons.

“I see PDP becoming strong, I see a future in PDP in Akwa Ibom State if what is being planned to do is done properly,” he said.

He suggested that the Board of Trustees of the party should go to court and claim the states that have seen their governors defect to the APC, adding that the framers of the Nigerian Constitution might not have envisaged state governors defecting to another party after being elected on a particular party’s platform.

On the membership of Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory in PDP, FredFish said, “I have said it before that they should expel Wike from the party with immediate effect. He is like a cankerworm, the type of worm that the Bible talks about that comes to your house with the purpose of killing, destroying and uprooting.

”Wike is not in PDP to build the party; he is not in PDP as a party man. He is in PDP to destroy, his agenda is well known. So, my own is why can’t he be expelled?

”He has called PDP all types of bad names in the world but why can’t he leave that terrible party is the question that I have asked the PDP leaders and the Board and I have said it several times that the party can’t grow, progress with someone like Nyesom Wike, so he should be expelled.”
