I Only Want Good People Around Me —Chimamanda Adichie

Award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has opened up about the reason behind her appearance at the upcoming WithChude Live event, hosted by celebrated media personality Chude Jideonwo.
The highly anticipated event is set to debut on April 27 at The Palms Mall, Oniru, Lagos, bringing together an impressive lineup of Nigerian stars including Jerry Eze, Funke Akindele, Bovi Ugboma, Falz, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Moses Bliss, Veekee James, Taaooma, Kie Kie, and Hauwa Lawal.
Speaking about her involvement, Adichie said that it was less about public appearances and more about the person behind the platform.
“Chude, it’s because you are so special to me and I’m doing it because of you,” she said.
Reflecting on their two-decade-long friendship which began in 2005 when Jideonwo interviewed her for a ThisDay Newspaper cover — Adichie expressed her admiration for his character and personal growth.
“I really have seen you grow in all kinds of ways, but most of all it’s because you are a good person. I have come to a point in my life where I want to be around only good people, people who are genuine in their goodness and not people who perform goodness. That’s why I’m doing it,” she added.
The event promises a mix of conversations, panel sessions, and performances, to mark a meaningful reunion for Adichie and Jideonwo after twenty years — and a gathering of some of Nigeria’s brightest and most inspiring voices.
