A former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, has lauded Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, over the appointment of Dr. Friday Kanu Ohuche as his Chief Economic Adviser.

Amadi described the appointment as another “remarkable” decision by Governor Otti, noting that Ohuche’s credentials and experience make him a valuable asset to Abia’s ongoing development drive.

“Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti made another of those his remarkable appointments. He appointed Dr. Friday Ohuche as Chief Economic Adviser,” Amadi wrote on Monday.

“Ohuche is not just a brilliant economist who is advisory board member of the Nigeria Economics Society. He was at various times, advisor to Chief Economic Adviser to President, Prof. Charles Soludo, Director at the CBN, top management at the IMF, Senior Policy Advisor, AFDB.”

Amadi recalled that Ohuche had contributed to several initiatives targeted at Southeast regional development, including a recent collaboration with him and Dr. Abraham Nwankwo on the Southeast Security and Economic Summit report.

He praised Otti’s effort in assembling a team committed to transforming Abia. He likened the current administration’s vision to that of Southeast political icons such as Dr. M.I. Okpara, Dr. Nnanna Ukegbu, and Dr. Sam Mbakwe.

“There is no doubt that the vision and commitment at work in Abia is getting close to that of our heroes and mentors,” he said.

“Great days are ahead in Abia State. I now wish I am from Abia. Anyway, my village is close to Ngwa so I can enjoy some of those goodies.

“Kudos to Dr. Otti. Do not relent. Continue in your disciplined and wise approach to governance,” Amadi added.

Ohuche is a development economist with decades of experience spanning academia, international development consulting, central banking, and public financial management.

He holds a Ph.D. in Development Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and has worked with institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, IMF, World Bank, USAID, and AFDB.

Ohuche also served as Special Assistant to different Chief Economic Advisers to the President of Nigeria and participated in major economic policy frameworks, including the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS), Nigeria Agenda 2050, and reforms of the Nigerian tax and financial systems.
