I joined Besiktas To Win Trophies – Ndidi

Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi has opened up on the reasons behind his move to Turkish League side Besiktas ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Ndidi ended his eight-and-a-half-year spell with Leicester City to team up with Beşiktaş in a deal worth €8 million.
He signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year, which will earn him around €4 million per season.
He was linked with the likes of Real Betis, Valencia, Everton, Bayer Leverkusen, and Manchester United but he has now opened up on why he joined Besiktas.
Ndidi said: “Beşiktaş are one of the biggest teams in the country. I wanted to be here because I want to see a new environment, new people and a new league.
“When I received the offer from Beşiktaş, I was really impressed and I want to come here.”
The 28-year-old is targeting trophies with his new club in the 2025-26 season.
Ndidi said: “My biggest goal at Beşiktaş is to win as many matches as possible. These victories will bring us trophies and take us to the next level,” Ndidi declared.
“That’s why I think this is a great opportunity for me to join the team and win more matches together. I am a very hard-working player. I am a team player. I don’t play just for my personal goals.
“I play more for the team to win. Because when the team wins, all the players are at their best. So, I can say that I am a team player in the truest sense.”
Ndidi made 303 appearances for Leicester City, helping them to win the FA Cup in 2021, and playing a key role in their promotion back to the Premier League in 2024.
He is set to make his debut for Besiktas against St Patrick Athletic in the Europa Conference League qualifiers on Thursday.
Ndidi becomes the fifth Nigerian player to play for Besiktas after the likes of Daniel Amokachi, Christopher Ohenhen, Ike Shorunmu, and Michael Eneramo.
