I Have Backing Of Chelsea Owners Despite Poor Form- Maresca

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has revealed that he enjoys the backing of the Chelsea owners despite the team’s poor run of form.

The Blues suffered an embarrassing 2-1 loss at home to Lega Warsaw on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final clash.

They have now failed to win their last two matches at home including the 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town last weekend in the Premier League.

Due to their poor run of form, Chelsea have slipped out of the Champions League places on the Premier League log.

The club’s supporters expressed their disappointment by booing the players at the end of the defeat against Lega Warsaw.

However, Maresca has confirmed that he has the backing of the owners despite the fans’ frustrations.

The Chelsea owners have sacked three coaches in less than three years since they took charge of the club.

“Absolutely yes, no doubt,” Maresca responded when he was asked whether he had the backing of the owners.

He continued: “We have spent almost all season in a Champions League spot. We are in a European semifinal. So why now we need to change something? I don’t have any doubt about what we are doing and the way we are doing.

“For different reasons, we had setbacks like (against Legia), but for me, this makes us stronger for the future.”

The Italian manager also urged the players to see their last six games of the season as vital in order to achieve their objectives at the end of the season.

Maresca said, “At this moment [of the season], there is no bad time to play,’ the Blues head coach said. ‘There is only the right time to play a game.

“We have six Premier League games plus the two semi-final matches, so we have eight official games to play at the moment and they are all important. Now is the moment to go, if we want to reach something.

“Chelsea is a big club, a huge club, one of the biggest clubs in the world. So it’s normal that you have pressure. When you decide to sign for Chelsea, you have to think you are under pressure because it’s Chelsea. It’s the same for the manager, no doubt.

“So if we have a game away and there is worry [about that], we are in the wrong way.”

Chelsea have won two out of their last six matches in all competitions.

Maresca’s team will be back in Premier League action against Fulham on Sunday. A win will boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
