HYPREP Marks World Water Day, Celebrates Progress In Providing Potable Water To Ogoni Communities
The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has joined the global community in marking World Water Day, with a focus on glacier preservation and the importance of protecting freshwater sources.
In a press statement released, HYPREP’s Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, highlighted the project’s progress in providing potable water to impacted communities in Ogoniland.
According to Prof. Zabbey, 30 Ogoni communities now have access to clean drinking water, thanks to HYPREP’s potable water projects.
These projects, he explained, are designed to provide sustainable solutions that meet the needs of impacted communities, restoring dignity, improving public health, and securing a better future for the people of Ogoniland.
He said: “HYPREP’s efforts to provide potable water are a critical component of its mandate to remediate and restore the environment in Ogoniland.
“The project has involved rehabilitating existing water infrastructure, establishing new facilities, and implementing sustainable water management strategies. Recently commissioned facilities in Bunu and Beeri communities are part of this effort.”
Prof. Zabbey emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and HYPREP is working tirelessly to ensure that communities in Ogoniland have access to this basic necessity.
However, as the world marks World Water Day, HYPREP reaffirms its commitment to addressing the water challenges facing hydrocarbon-impacted communities in Ogoniland.
The project coordinator called on all stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, community leaders, and other Niger Delta communities, to join HYPREP in its efforts to provide clean water and protect the environment in Ogoniland.
HYPREP also reaffirms its commitment to environmental restoration and building structures for peace in Ogoniland. With the theme “Glacier Preservation” highlighting the importance of protecting freshwater sources, HYPREP’s work in Ogoniland serves as a critical reminder of the need to safeguard potable water sources for future generations.
Prof. Zabbey emphasized that “water is life,” and HYPREP is dedicated to ensuring that everyone in Ogoniland and beyond has access to clean, safe, and sustainable drinking water.
