The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) recently hosted the 2nd edition of the International Career Enhancement and Employability Workshop for Ogoni fresh graduates and students in tertiary institutions.

The workshop, held in Port Harcourt, aimed to equip participants with relevant career skills and empower them with employability tools.

In his welcome address, the Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting the dreams of young people through targeted initiatives.

He noted that the workshop was designed to build a community of young people and equip them to make a positive impact in their communities. Prof. Zabbey urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and prospects, and to prioritize peace and constructive engagement in all their interactions.

Prof. Zabbey assured participants that HYPREP would continue to stand with them, supporting their aspirations through targeted workshops and broader livelihood initiatives that prioritize their development. He expressed the organization’s commitment to creating platforms where young people’s potential can be nurtured and realized.

The workshop aimed to provide participants with valuable insights and skills to enhance their employability and career prospects.

The facilitators, who are experts in their fields, shared their experiences and knowledge with the participants, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn and grow.

The lead facilator, Dr. Akanimo Udoh, Director for Africa Partnerships at Lancaster University and Chairman of the African Union Research Innovation Council in the UK chapter, emphasized the importance of intentionality and resource development in career enhancement and employability.

According to Dr. Udoh, the key to unlocking career potential lies in increasing one’s capacity to access and utilize resources, rather than relying solely on government support.

Dr. Udoh highlighted the need for a proactive approach to career development, citing the example of entrepreneurs who often struggle to access funding due to a lack of knowledge about potential sources of support.

He emphasized that understanding who provides funding, why they provide it, and who they fund is a crucial dimension of resource formulation. The career enhancement and employability program, designed as a learning-by-doing initiative, aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to take charge of their careers.

The program’s focus on practical problem-solving and group work enables participants to develop solutions to specific challenges within their areas of expertise. By instilling intentionality and specific action points, the program seeks to empower participants to take ownership of their career development and make progress towards their goals.

The workshop provided participants with a platform to engage with experts in their fields, learn from their experiences, and gain valuable insights into the job market. The participants were encouraged to take the message of peace and constructive engagement to their communities and live accordingly.
