The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of communities recently devastated by windstorm and fire incidents in Adamawa State.

The exercise, carried out on Saturday and disclosed by NEMA via a post on X on Sunday, covered the communities of Ndubande, Angwan Madaki, and Sabo Geri in Song LGA, where homes and livelihoods were wrecked by windstorms.

The agency carried out the assessment in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the chairperson of Song Local Government Area.

Mr. Musa Yakubu of NEMA’s Planning, Search and Rescue Operations (PSARO) department, who led the delegation, said: “We are here to see things for ourselves and ensure that the appropriate authorities get firsthand information about what the people have suffered.”

Explaining the extent of the damage, he said, “The disasters led to the loss of livelihoods, including the destruction of residential buildings, food items, food banks, and motorcycles.”

Yakubu assured the distressed communities that emergency relief would not be delayed.

“NEMA sympathises with the affected victims and assures the residents that their plight will be promptly reported to the appropriate authorities for immediate support and intervention,” he added.

Officials from ADSEMA and NEDC also participated in the assessment, and jointly inspected the destroyed areas and engaged with residents to better understand the scale of devastation.
