The lawmaker representing Sokoto North senatorial district, Aliyu Wamakko, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the nation.

In a statement personally signed and issued to journalists in Sokoto on Sunday, Wamakko said Nigeria has lost one of its most iconic and selfless leaders.

“It is with profound shock, deep sorrow, and a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the passing of our elder statesman, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigeria has lost one of its most iconic and selfless leaders, an incorruptible patriot and a disciplined statesman,” he said.

Wamakko described Buhari as a symbol of integrity who dedicated his entire life to the service of the nation with honour, courage, and unwavering commitment.

Reflecting on the late president’s journey from a young military officer to a democratically elected leader, the senator hailed him as a beacon of hope and discipline in national leadership.

“Buhari stood tall as a beacon of hope, discipline, and forthrightness.

His unwavering resolve to tackle corruption, his passion for infrastructural rebirth, his investment in agricultural revival, and his strides in security sector reforms will remain etched in the annals of our history,” he stated.

The lawmaker said that Buhari governed with a rare blend of simplicity, sincerity, and steadfast vision.

“Under his leadership, critical national infrastructure witnessed a renaissance, from road and rail development to power and agricultural transformation.

His impact reached every corner of Nigeria, especially the long-neglected northern region, where he championed projects that uplifted the lives of ordinary citizens,” he added.

Wamakko further said he personally witnessed Buhari’s commitment to building a better Nigeria anchored on integrity, discipline, and inclusivity.

He also described Buhari’s modest lifestyle, even while in office, as a moral lesson for all who aspire to public leadership.

The senator extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former president, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
