Hackers hijack Supreme Court of India’s YouTube channel to promote crypto scam
The official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India has been hacked, with videos now promoting XRP, a cryptocurrency linked to Ripple Labs.
The channel, which is normally used to livestream important court hearings and store past legal proceedings, had its content removed or set to private by the attackers.
The Supreme Court’s YouTube channel has played a key role in making high-profile cases accessible to the public, including sensitive cases like the ongoing investigation into a serious crime at RG Kar Medical College.
Viewers hoping to access these videos were shocked to find a live stream titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION,” instead of the usual court proceedings.
At the time of reporting, YouTube had suspended the compromised account and was working to restore it.
The breach raises concerns about the growing threat of hackers targeting popular and trusted channels to promote cryptocurrency scams.
Ripple Labs has filed lawsuits against YouTube for failing to protect its platform after the scammers promised fraudulent XRP rewards in exchange for initial payments.
