Gunmen Kill Vice Chairman Of Rivers Community Council Of Chiefs
A tragic incident has occurred in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, where gunmen suspected to be Iceland cult members have shot dead Chief Ferdinand Dabiri, Vice Chairman of the Obelle Council of Chiefs.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened on Saturday evening, July 19, 2025, when the suspected cult members, led by an individual known as ‘Cairo’, approached the venue where Chief Dabiri and other chiefs were holding a meeting.
‘Cairo’ allegedly walked straight to Chief Dabiri, shot him twice, and fled the scene on a motorcycle.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, with some natives fleeing the community in fear of further attacks.
Joseph Dabiri, the second son of the deceased, confirmed the incident to reporters on Sunday, stating that the family has reported the matter to the Rumuji Police Division and is calling for justice.
This incident is not an isolated case, as the Obelle community has witnessed cult-related killings within the last year.
In November 2024, a protest was led by Miss Loveth Amadi, accusing ‘Cairo’ of killing her father, Akpata Amadi, a member of the local vigilante in Obelle community.
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to make an official statement on the incident.
The community is now demanding urgent security intervention to restore peace and prevent further cult-related violence.
