The Rule of Law and Anti-corruption Programme, ROLAC, has taken steps to improve performance, quality and oversight of the criminal justice system and quality of justice service delivery in Abia State.

It is aiming to improve anti-corruption systems and increase transparency and accountability in the State.

Speaking to media participants during a workshop, the Abia State Project Coordinator for ROLAC, Peter Omenka said that the program strategized on how to develop a document on integrity, accountability in Abia society.

He said that the programme, which is implemented in Nigeria by International IDEA and funded by the European Union, was needed to improve rule of law, good governance and transparent management of resources.

Also speaking, a member of civil society and Executive Director, CHARS-Africa, Amaka Biachi said that the documents, when developed and adopted, would enable Abia citizens access to the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

She further said that it would lead to reform of Public Procurement Law for effective transparency and accountability in the State and aid the members of civil society in their engagements.

Also speaking, a consultant with ROLAC, Professor Ada Chidi Igbokwe said that strategies were being developed to domesticate the national anti-corruption strategy, saying that it was a road map to fight corruption.

Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, who was represented by Mrs Becky Ngozi Ikechukwu, said that the itemised strategies designed to curb corruption to the barest minimum in Abia, would receive the support of his ministry.
