Group Demands Automatic Promotion For NIS Officer That Rejected ₦10m Bribe
The Nigeria Delta Rights Advocates (NDRA), a political pressure group in the Niger Delta region, has saluted the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer, Ugochukwu Orji, for demonstrating rare patriotism and honour by rejecting a ₦10 million bribe offer from a fleeing ritual suspect.
The group described the officer’s action as “heartwarming and a positive sign of hope for a better Nigeria.”
In a press statement signed by Bright Ngolo, Chairman of NDRA, the group commended the officer’s courage, bravery, and honesty, and demanded an automatic promotion to the next rank for Officer Orji.
“We demand an automatic promotion to the next rank for Officer Orji to serve as further encouragement for all officers in the five paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior and indeed other security services to consider the interest of the nation over and above personal gains,” the statement read.
The group made this strong demand, considering the welfarist agenda of the Minister of Interior and the fact that over 100,000 officers serving in the paramilitary agencies under the Ministry have been promoted in the past two years since he took office.
NDRA also commended the Ministry for deploying modern security features at the nation’s land borders and international airports to curb cross-border criminality and secure the country’s territorial integrity.
The group thanked the Nigerian media for continuously promoting the patriotic activities of selfless Nigerians and appealed to the media to headline Officer Orji’s singular effort.
“We salute the courage, bravery, and honesty of this Nigerian serving under the Immigration and Ministry of Interior,” the statement concluded. “We believe that Officer Orji’s action is a beacon of hope for a better Nigeria, and we urge the authorities to recognize and reward his patriotism.”
