Governors Back Tinubu’s Community Police Model
The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security model, which seeks to empower states and communities to take more active roles in addressing Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Following the president’s recent visit to Benue State, the governors convened to review the current security landscape across the country.
In a joint resolution, they agreed on the urgent need to implement a state-based security framework as a strategic complement to ongoing federal interventions.
Speaking on the development, the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, affirmed that Imo has already embraced this model and is recording significant results.
According to him, the state’s community-based security system has strengthened local response mechanisms, curbed criminal activities, and restored public confidence.
He said: “We have deployed this model across our communities, and the outcome has been encouraging. It is being further enhanced through coordinated intelligence gathering, community engagement, and lawful enforcement operations.”
Uzodimma further reiterated the collective commitment of state governments to uphold the law while protecting lives and property.
“Our resolve remains firm. Security is a shared responsibility, and we will continue to do our utmost in safeguarding our people,” he added.
