Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has expressed pain over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Adeleke also described the late former President as a patriot who contributed immensely to national development.
He made this known through a statement by his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday.
Governor Adeleke also extended his condolences to President Bola Tinubu on this devastating loss, stating that Nigeria has lost a distinguished leader who gave his all for the country’s progress.
The Governor, while commiserating with former First Lady, Aishat Buhari, surviving children and immediate family, stated that they had lost more than just a father and confidant, but an embodiment of integrity who brought so much difference to governance in Nigeria.
He also extended his sympathy to his counterpart in Katsina state, Governor Dikko Umar Radda, the Emir of Daura and the people of Katsina state, who lost a remarkable leader.
He said, “It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, the United Kingdom.
“His contributions to national development will remain evergreen in the minds of all Nigerians.”
“Throughout his lifetime, President Buhari was a watchword for integrity, inspiring honesty and selfless services in public service. Nigeria has lost one of its finest and I join in mourning a leader whose contributions to nation building is unquantifiable,” he added.
Governor Adeleke also prayed for the repose of the soul of the late leader while hoping that God comforts everyone impacted by this monumental loss.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that former President Buhari died in London on Sunday afternoon at the age of 82.
The news of his death was made public by his former aide, Garba Shehu who announced via his X (formerly Twitter) handle in a brief message, “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”
Meanwhile, Osun residents have reacted with mixed emotions following the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
In Osogbo, the state capital, some residents gathered in small groups discussing the news, which spread quickly through social media.
Many expressed shock at the sudden announcement, despite the former president’s long-standing health issues.
Speaking to DAILY POST, Funmilayo Adeoti, a trader, said, “I was surprised when I heard. I didn’t know Baba Buhari was in London again. May his soul rest in peace.”
A civil servant, Afeez Salawu, commented, “Regardless of how people felt about his time in office, he served Nigeria twice—as military ruler and civilian president. That is history. May God forgive his shortcomings.”
Youths in parts of Ede and Ilesa were seen expressing divergent views.
“While some posted tributes on social media, others raised questions about his legacy.
A university student, Tosin Alabi, said, “He ruled with discipline, but the economy suffered under his leadership. Still, it is a solemn moment for Nigeria.”
