Funding shortfalls limiting our interventions, ability to save lives — UNICEF
The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has said the drastic and abrupt reductions in funding for its activities are severely threatening its collective ability to deliver aid and save lives in conflict affected areas.
Deputy Representative, UNICEF Nigeria, Ms Rownak Khan, raised the alarm at the launching of joint resilience and social cohesion project phase II in Northeast held in Damaturu, Yobe State.
“Funding shortfalls are limiting our abilities, as well as those of our implementation partners to sustain staff, activities, and operational presence. When the community needs them most, our local and national NGO partners, who are often the most agile and cost-effective, are also the most affected”, she said.
Khan noted that as a result of this, many UNICEF’s partners have to scale down or suspend activities just when their support is critically needed.
