Fulani group launches nationwide voter registration sensitization campaign for herders

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, KACRAN, has launched a nationwide, house-to-house voter registration sensitization exercise for herders.

The National President of the Association, Khalil Moh’d Bello, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday.

According to the statement, the initiative, which began on Thursday last week in the Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State, was in response to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

“KACRAN recognizes the importance of this process for its members and is committed to ensuring that pastoralists are not disenfranchised,” the Association said.

The Association also noted that despite the challenges of herders’ occupation—which often keeps them in remote areas—and the complexity of the digital registration process, there is a need to empower them to participate fully in the democratic process.

“The goal of this sensitization campaign is to: “Educate herders on how to register children who have turned 18.

“Assist members who have lost their voter cards or need to update their information due to migration.

“Ensure that pastoralists are well-prepared to vote or be elected in the 2027 general elections,” KACRAN said.

KACRAN commended INEC for its inclusivity, noting that even inmates are being registered, and believed that herders, who are equally deserving of their constitutional rights, should also be fully included.

KACRAN urged all governments and well-meaning Nigerians to support and cooperate with INEC in its mission to register more eligible voters, correct and update voter information, and register new political parties, thereby providing Nigerians with more opportunities to vote for candidates of their choice.
