FRSC Urges South-East Governors To Donate Ambulance Buses For Operations
The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has pleaded with the five governors of the South-East states to assist the commission with operational ambulances buses to enhance the agency’s optimal responses to road crash victims.
The appeal was made by the Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) of FRSC, ACM Anthony Oko, in Enugu when he interacted with newsmen on Friday.
ACM Oko said provision of ambulances to the commission would quicken response times and improve capacities during rescue emergency interventions on roads. He said ambulances, when provided, would be deployed to strategic locations on the highways.
He cited the states where ambulance services had been enhanced as Lagos and Osun, and called on the governors of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states to borrow a leaf from Lagos and Osun.
According to Oko, the initiative involved having mini fire fighting stations, a team of security personnel and extricating machines attached to the rescue emergency ambulance spots.
Quoting him, “It has been proven that ambulance rescue and first aid given to a road accident victim between five and 10 minutes of crash makes great impact to ensure the victim’s survival.
“It has become necessary to adopt the on-the-road spot ambulance emergency rescue initiative which is well-equiped and fashioned to attend to emergency rescues.
“The governors should support the FRSC in promoting this laudable initiative as it is mostly the residents of the state where these roads run usually use them for daily routine and periodic travels.”
He stated that the close collaborations with sister security agencies had helped to improve the work and visibility of FRSC in the zone.
According to him, “With current collaborations of sister security agencies, we are getting better results and seamless positive outcomes in safety and protection of Nigerians on our roads.
“We appreciate the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police, NSCDC, DSS, Vehicle Inspection Offices, both Federal and state fire services in the zone, among others.”
