FRSC Mobile Court Convicts 46 Road Offenders In Calabar
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cross River State Sector Command, on Friday, September 12, 2025, held a Mobile Court session in Calabar, where 46 motorists were arraigned and convicted for various road traffic violations.
The sitting, presided over by Magistrate Abigail Asuquo, handed down penalties for offences ranging from bribery attempts and overloading to driver’s licence violations and vehicle defects.
In a statement signed on Saturday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal, Olusegun Ogungbemide, ten offenders who attempted to corrupt FRSC operatives on duty were each fined ₦10,000, while another 10 convicted for overloading were also fined ₦10,000 apiece.
Ogungbemide noted that the court further imposed a total of ₦80,000 in fines for driver’s licence violations.
Eighteen other offenders were penalised for faulty light and caution signs, worn-out tyres, cracked windscreens, passenger manifest violations, and failure to install speed limiters. However, one defendant was discharged after the court sensitised him on the dangers of his offence.
Speaking after the exercise, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Innocent T. Etuk, said “The decision of the court will serve as a deterrent and strengthen compliance with traffic regulations across the state,” he stated.
On his part, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to safer roads, stressing that the Corps is working towards its 2025 strategic goal of reducing road crashes and fatalities by 10 per cent.
“Acts capable of undermining road safety, such as bribing marshals on duty, are unacceptable,” he warned, urging motorists to prioritise obedience to traffic laws and proper vehicle maintenance as non-negotiable measures for safe motoring.
The FRSC further pledged sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and stakeholder collaboration to enhance road safety nationwide.
