FRSC Deploys 36,000 Personnel Nationwide For Eid el-Kabir
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide special patrol operation to ensure safe and smooth travel during the upcoming Eid el-Kabir celebrations.
The exercise, which runs from Wednesday, June 5 to Tuesday, June 11, 2025, is designed to manage traffic flow, reduce road crashes, and facilitate prompt rescue operations during the festive period.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.
According to the statement, the Corps has mobilised over 36,000 personnel, including regular and special marshals, to man highways and critical corridors across the country.
The operation will be supported by 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and more than 200 motorbikes.
“Pursuant to the declaration of Friday, 6 June, 2025 as the day of Eid el-Kabir in Nigeria, the Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced massive mobilisation of its personnel and operational equipment for the Sallah special patrol aimed at ensuring safer road environment before, during the festive period, and beyond,” the statement read in part.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the exercise targets 52 major road corridors nationwide, including the Akwanga-Lafiya-Makurdi, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, Sagamu-Mowe-Lagos, and Jos-Bauchi-Gombe highways.
To ensure compliance and deterrence, mobile courts will be in session across various locations to promptly prosecute traffic offences such as over-speeding, wrongful overtaking, distracted driving (including use of phones), licence violations, lane indiscipline, and the use of unroadworthy vehicles.
FRSC personnel will carry radar guns and breathalysers to monitor speed and detect drunk driving, while night rescue teams and emergency response units (Zebra teams) have been activated to respond to incidents.
The FRSC is also collaborating with the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of State Services (DSS), and ambulance service providers to strengthen operational coverage and emergency response.
Members of the public were encouraged to report accidents, road obstructions, or traffic gridlocks via the FRSC’s toll-free line (122) or by tuning in to the National Traffic Radio (107.1 FM).
The Corps Marshal appealed to motorists to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with law enforcement officers to ensure a safe and crash-free Sallah celebration.
