From Forest to Fortune: Elanga's £55M Newcastle Switch Confirmed, Medical Tests Underway

A deal reportedly worth £55 million has been completed between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest for the signing of talented Swedish winger Anthony Elanga.

With the 23-year-old already scheduled for medical testing, the much-anticipated transfer is expected to be finalised this week as the Magpies look to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League.

Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on social media, writing: “Anthony Elanga to Newcastle, here we go! A £55 million club-to-club deal with Nottingham Forest has been reached. There is also a long-term agreement in place with the player’s camp. A great addition to #NUFC.”

Elanga, who joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United for around £15 million in 2023, had an outstanding 2024–25 Premier League season.

With six goals and eleven assists, the dynamic winger—who entered the Manchester United youth system at age 12 and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2020—played a crucial role in Forest’s surprising seventh-place finish.

Newcastle, who have long admired the winger, were drawn to his standout performances, marked by blistering pace, directness, and creativity.

The move, which makes Elanga Newcastle United’s second most expensive signing after his countryman Alexander Isak, represents a major statement of intent.

After their initial £45 million offer was rejected last month, the Magpies returned with an improved bid, which Nottingham Forest ultimately accepted.
