Four Suspected Traffic Robbers Arrested In Lagos
Four suspected traffic robbers have been arrested in their hideout in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
The suspects, identified as Ismail Akinlade (26), Rasak Abiodun (25), Adefabi Gbolahan (25), and Rilwan Olaloye (20), were apprehended by the Lagos State Task Force following a series of investigations.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the agency’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem.
One of the suspects, Ismail, confessed that he usually handed over stolen items to their leader, who is currently at large.
“Whenever I steal, I give the phone to Number One ( now at large) at Mushin, who handles selling our loot. After a while, we return for the cash proceeds, which we spend on drugs and gambling,” Ismail said.
He also revealed that the gang takes advantage of bad road conditions to carry out their attacks, targeting motorists forced to slow down due to poor road conditions.
Speaking on the arrests, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Adetayo Akerele, stated that the agency had been monitoring miscreants operating in specific areas of the state.
“These individuals reportedly target distracted motorists, stealing phones, bags, and other valuables from vehicles while distracting the occupants,” he said.
He added that the arrests were made after a stolen phone was traced to the Idi-Oro area in Mushin through intelligence gathering and surveillance.
“They have all been interrogated and will be charged to court immediately.
“I urge others still engaging in such crimes in traffic to desist immediately or risk the same fate as the arrested four,” Akerele warned.
