Flood: NEMA raises fresh alert

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has directed its field offices along the River Niger to step up flood preparedness measures following alerts of rising water levels upstream in the Republic of Benin.

In an urgent directive, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, urged communities in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and begin relocating to safer, higher grounds.

The alert identified Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states as high-risk zones that may be impacted if water levels continue to rise.

Mrs. Umar also appealed to state governments in the affected areas to strengthen their State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) and Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) to activate contingency plans.
