Fleeing Nigerian Native Doctor Arrested At Border — Immigration
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested Obi Levi Obieze, alias Levi Obu Onyeka, a wanted man accused of involvement in the abduction and alleged ritual killing of a 13-year-old girl in Enugu State, while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle through the Lagos-Seme border.
Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlab, on Thursday.
Obieze, a native of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, and a known native doctor, had been declared wanted by the Enugu State Police Command.
He was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Border Patrol Command at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme road, following credible intelligence.
The suspect was attempting to evade capture when he was intercepted by vigilant immigration personnel. A National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment slip found on him confirmed his identity.
Initial police reports allege that on May 27, 2025, the suspect, along with two accomplices, abducted a teenage girl who was walking to the farm with her father.
The victim was later rescued by police from a shrine allegedly linked to Obieze, as detailed in a national newspaper report published on May 28, 2025.
According to the NIS, Obieze has confessed to the crime during preliminary questioning.
The statement read in part, “Obi Levi Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, and a known native doctor, is alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl on 27th May, 2025. The victim was reportedly abducted by a group of three men while walking with her father to farm. She was subsequently rescued by the police from a shrine purportedly linked to the suspect, according to a news article published on 28th May, 2025, by a national newspaper.
“Through credible intelligence, Obi Levi Obieze was apprehended by vigilant men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Border Patrol Command, at Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle.
“He is currently in custody and his identity has been confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission enrollment slip found in his possession. During initial questioning, he admitted to the alleged crimes.”
The Immigration Service has pledged continued cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a thorough investigation and proper handover of the suspect.
“The Service remains committed to securing Nigeria’s borders and preventing fugitives from escaping justice,” the statement added.
