Flawless Start: Madugu Commends Super Falcons After Emphatic 3-0 Tunisia Victory

The Super Falcons’ 3–0 victory over Tunisia in their opening Group B match at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Sunday night left head coach Justin Madugu pleased with his team’s dominant performance.

At the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, the nine-time African champions quickly asserted their supremacy. Omorinsola Babajide’s precise cross in the fourth minute set up star striker Asisat Oshoala to open the scoring.

Shortly before halftime, Babajide doubled the lead by firing a powerful shot past the Tunisian goalkeeper. In the 84th minute, substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo added a clinical third to seal the commanding victory.

Madugu praised his players for their impressive performance, emphasising that starting the tournament with a win was the primary objective.

“It always feels good each time you prepare for a game. The ultimate goal is to win. And the fact that the team won—naturally, we are happy with that,” Madugu said after the game.

He also highlighted the importance of every squad member, noting his commitment to promoting unity and ensuring each player feels valued.

“Well, every player here is equally important. For us, they are all our players, and we try as much as possible to promote team harmony and make everyone feel relevant. No one is made to feel more important than another,” he added.

“Football is a team sport—you all need each other. So we do our best to ensure fairness and transparency in all that we do.

“Like I said, everyone has an equal chance of being in the team. So whoever performs well continues; whoever doesn’t—obviously, because we aim to improve—we have the option to make changes to keep the team moving forward.”
