The Federal Fire Service (FFS) on Saturday contained a gas fire incident at Lake View Homes, Jabi, Abuja.

A resident, identified as Mr. Goddy, had called the FSS through its emergency numbers (112 / 0803 200 3557) and used a fire extinguisher to control the flames, according to a post on the FFS official X handle.

“This is a gas fire at Lake View Homes, Jabi, Abuja, where Mr. Goddy’s quick action helped avert disaster. He immediately called the Federal Fire Service and used a fire extinguisher to control the flames before our team arrived,” the FFS stated.

Firefighters led by ASF I Pius Saviour arrived at the scene shortly after, inspected the premises, and certified it safe.

The Service cautioned Nigerians against taking unnecessary risks during fire outbreaks, stressing the importance of early reporting and preparedness.

“Remember, only attempt to put out a fire at its very beginning. If it is beyond you, call the Fire Service immediately and move to a safe place. This is always the best option,” the FFS advised.

The agency further emphasised the need for homes and workplaces to be equipped with fire safety tools and training.

“This incident shows why every Nigerian must equip their homes and workplaces with fire safety tools and training — preparedness saves lives and property,” the FFS added.
