Fire Service Places Personnel On Alert Over Gombe Flood Prediction
The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has placed its personnel on alert following a flood forecast issued by the Federal Ministry of Environment through the National Flood Early Warning Centre.
According to the advisory, heavy rainfall expected between August 23 and 24, 2025, could trigger flooding in several parts of the country, with Bajoga, Dogon Ruwa, Gombe, and Nafada identified as high-risk areas in Gombe State.
Confirming the development on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF M.B. Muazu said the agency had stepped up preparations to respond swiftly to possible emergencies.
“As a frontline emergency response agency, we have placed our officers and men on high alert to intervene promptly in any flood-related incident,” Muazu stated.
He urged residents in vulnerable communities to take precautionary measures, including adhering to official advisories and avoiding waterways and flood-prone zones.
“Preparedness and cooperation from the public are vital in mitigating the impact of disasters. We appeal to residents to remain vigilant, heed evacuation orders when issued, and contact the nearest Federal Fire Service station in case of emergencies,” he added.
The command reassured the public of its readiness to collaborate with other emergency stakeholders to minimise risks associated with the predicted floods.
