Fire Guts Enugu Home, Destroys Household Items

Property worth millions of naira was destroyed early Tuesday morning when fire gutted a house located at Umuoyo, Nru, in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The owner of the house, Chris Ugwuja, told THE WHISTLER that the fire began around 2 am and destroyed everything in the house. He, however, said no life was lost.
According to him, “The cause of the fire is not known. There was no power supply, so it wouldn’t have been an electricity problem.
“It spread fast and destroyed our household materials and stored food items. But I thank God that no life was lost.
“It would have been the worst. We were sleeping then and were woken up by the surging fire.
“Neighbours helped a lot, otherwise, we would have been telling another story.”
He appealed to government and public-spirited individuals to come to their aid.
According to him, “Our means of livelihood have been destroyed. Some goods we stored as investments were burnt.”
Items destroyed by the fire include electronics, mattresses, foodstuffs, and furniture. The entire six rooms and the sitting room of the bungalow were affected.
