The Airtel network mast 614, located in Osin-Okete area, Osin of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State capital, was on Monday gutted by fire.

The fire incident occurred at about 13:27hours, according to a statement by the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin on Monday.

According to the statement, fire service crew turned out at 13:27hrs and began emergency operations immediately.

It disclosed that upon arrival, firefighters found the network mast ablaze.

“A generator at the site was affected; however, the swift and coordinated actions of the fire crew significantly limited further damage to the mast and nearby equipment.”

Firefighting operations brought the incident under control at 14:04hrs, the statement said.

Preliminary findings are being compiled and the cause of the fire will be confirmed following further investigation, the statement added.

Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, commended the prompt response of the crew.

He equally urged the public and facility managers to maintain proper electrical and fuel safety measures and to report emergencies immediately to minimise risk and damage.
