FG To Resume Payment Of N100bn Bridging Claims To Oil Marketers
The federal government has commenced negotiations with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to resume payment of the N100bn bridging claims owed by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of IPMAN led by Alhaji Abubakar Shettima Maigandi disclosed this on Thursday in a notice to members which was obtained by THE WHISTLER.
IPMAN had planned to embark on a strike on February 24 alongside the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NARTO) and the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) over NMDPRA’s alleged refusal to honour the debt obligation.
The debt is in connection with unpaid funds belonging to petroleum marketers, which were deducted at the point of product payments to settle bridging allowances.
NPDPRA had pledged to offset the debt within 40 days after a meeting with IPMAN.
But IPMAN in the memo to its members, said its NEC “is actively engaged in resolving these issues as swiftly as possible.”
IPMAN NEC disclosed that NMDPRA and the Ministry of Petroleum have committed to paying the debt.
IPMAN said, “We have been in communication with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
“They have expressed their commitment to addressing these pending claims and other issues.
“They equally assured us that payment will take place within a short period. In the meantime, we kindly implore all members to remain calm and patient as we work towards securing the necessary approvals and payments.
“We understand the importance of these claims to you and appreciate your understanding during this process.”
IPMAN urged its members to refrain “from any action(s) that may disrupt our collective efforts, including strike actions.”
The association’s NEC also said its “upcoming official meeting with the NMDPRA will be a critical opportunity to discuss these matters further, and your participation will be invaluable.”
