FG Launches Initiative To Improve Education Quality, Gender Equality
The Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated the Quality Education and Girl-Child (Luminah 2030) initiatives, aimed at creating an inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education system.
The initiative is part of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) for Renewed Hope, which focuses on six key priority areas Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences, Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Out of School Children, Girl Child Education, Data and Digitalization and Education Quality Assurance.
The Luminah Girl Child Initiative and the broader Quality Education and Learning Outcomes Program are designed to address the issue of out-of-school children, with a particular focus on girl child education.
The initiatives aim to transform the educational landscape of Nigeria and invest in a future that is brighter, more prosperous, and filled with limitless possibilities.
Speaking during the launch on Friday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, stressed the importance of collaboration and stakeholder support in driving meaningful change in the education sector.
“The success of these initiatives does not rest solely on government efforts. It requires the unwavering support of all stakeholders— educators, parents, development partners, the private sector, and civil society. Education is a shared responsibility, and together, we must continue to push the boundaries of innovation, inclusion, and excellence.
“Distinguished members, the committees to be inaugurated under Quality education and learning outcome are: National Monitoring of Learning Achievement (NMLA) committee, School Grading Committee, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, Teacher Capacity Building-Communities of Practice (Cop) committee and the Teacher Capacity Building-Training Manual/National Framework committee.
“While the committees under Luminah 2030 are as follows: National Steering committee, Technical Advisory committee,Stakeholder Engagement Advocacy and Communication committee, Monitoring, Evaluation and Accountability committee and Private Sector, Development Partners and Donor Engagement committee,” he said.
He urged the inaugurated committees to approach their assignment with dedication, professionalism, and a sense of purpose.
The minister explained further that the initiative has received support from various stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and development partners.
