FG Inaugurates Technical Planning Committee For Specialist Hospital In Ogoni
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare in Ogoni with the inauguration of a 14-member Technical Planning Committee for the 100-bed Ogoni Specialist Hospital.
The committee, inaugurated by the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), is tasked with providing professional guidance on the operationalisation and long-term sustainability of the hospital.
The committee is expected to develop a comprehensive operationalisation roadmap that takes into consideration an efficient management and governance structure, ensuring the facility meets both national and international standards in public health service delivery.
The committee’s scope includes providing further details on medical services, specialised units, and technical capabilities.
Speaking at the inauguration, the project coordinator of HYPREP explained that the Ogoni Specialist Hospital is currently at 76 per cent completion; therefore, a planning committee was constituted to design its roadmap and sustainability.
He said the 100-bed specialist hospital is expected to have various units such as oncology, ophthalmology, dentistry, obstetrics, gynaecology, and emergency.
He added that the hospital is a vital component of the federal government’s public health initiative, implemented through HYPREP.
He emphasised that the strengthening of public hospitals and the construction of the Buan Hospital and the Ogoni Specialist Hospital are part of the larger effort to address public health concerns.
He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to the continuous implementation of the recommendations of the UNEP report.
Also, he explained that the 14-member committee is composed of multidisciplinary experts, including professors and medical professionals.
The chairperson of the committee, Professor Christie N. Mato, in her remarks immediately after the inauguration, expressed commitment to delivering on the task, stating that the Ogoni Specialist Hospital stands as a beacon of hope to every Ogoni person.
However, the committee is expected to submit its detailed findings and recommendations, which will be reviewed by the HYPREP Management and thereafter presented to the Governing Council for final consideration and approval.
