The Federal Government has approved the promotion of ninety-five top management officers in four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
The agencies include the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Major General A.M. Jibril (Rtd.), on behalf of the Board Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Board Secretariat in Abuja.
According to Maj. Gen. Jibril, the promotions span across the ranks of Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants to Assistant Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants-General.
The breakdown of the promoted officers is as follows:
Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS)—Assistant Controller-General (ACG) to Deputy Controller-General (DCG): 4 and Controller of Corrections (CC) to ACG: 31
Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) —ACG to DCG: 6 and Comptroller of Immigration (CI) to ACG: 20
Federal Fire Service (FFS) —ACG to DCG: 3and Controller to ACG: 2
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) —ACG to DCG: 3 and Commandant to ACG: 22
The Board, at its 03-25 meeting, also approved the constitution of a committee to develop a harmonised Scheme of Service for the four agencies.
Also, the Board deliberated on 224 disciplinary cases involving officers across the four services.
The decisions included dismissals, compulsory retirements, rejections of appeals against dismissal, exonerations, issuance of warning letters, and loss of seniority.
The breakdown of the cases considered is as follows: NCoS: 143, NIS: 31, FFS: 4 and NSCDC: 46
On recruitment, the Board reviewed ongoing processes and announced that online applications into the four services and the Board Secretariat will commence on Monday, July 14, 2025.
Applicants are advised to beware of fraudulent actors and are assured that the process will be “seamless and transparent”.
The Board also approved the timeline for the 2025 promotion exercise, which will begin in August and end in November 2025.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, Maj. Gen. Jibril said, “To whom much is given, much is expected. We urge all officers to bring their wealth of experience and knowledge to bear in their new roles and assignments.”
He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to merit, discipline, and transparency in line with national reforms in the security and civil services sector.
