Fernandes Is Going Nowhere – Amorim Rejects Saudi Arabia Rumours

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has shut down reports linking the club’s captain with a move to Saudi Arabia, declaring that he is going nowhere.

The Portuguese midfielder has been a key player for the club in a disastrous season, which has seen them spend the majority of the season in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Al-Hilal have expressed interest in Bruno Fernandes, and they are ready to splash the cash for him to join before the World Club Cup in June.

Amorim has denied reports that Fernandes is considering leaving Manchester United for Saudi Arabia.

He said, “Our idea didn’t change. We want to keep the best players, and Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world. We want Bruno here.

“It is easy to understand [his importance] – not just because of the numbers, but the way he plays and the importance he has during his five years here.

“It’s normal that a lot of clubs want a player like Bruno. He is a leader, and he’s the captain, so he’s really important. He is a top player; we need top players.”

Fernandes has scored 19 goals and recorded 18 assists in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

Amorim is expecting Athletico Bilbao to cause problems in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final clash at Old Trafford on Thursday.

He said, “If you look at our season, anything is possible. We cannot say today what is going to happen.

“[With] some teams, the story is going to be like ‘this’ and [they] control the narrative. We cannot do that.

“Sometimes it is not about which kind of team we will be tomorrow. Sometimes during the game, we are one team, then something happens, and we lose our minds a little bit.

“I feel we need to score to go to the next round. We will have to suffer a bit to go to the final.”

Manchester United won the first leg in Spain 3-0 to move a step closer to the Europa League final.
