The attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, when the unidentified bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a crowded local food joint, where residents had gathered to buy food.
A top security source involved in the joint response operation—comprising Military and Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units, tactical teams, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters—confirmed the incident to THE WHISTLER.
According to the source, the blast tore the attacker’s body apart, leaving only her head intact, which was later recovered by the team.
The source said, “A female suicide bombing in Konduga LGA, Borno occurred last night. Death score is more than ten, injured still not ascertain.
“The Nigeria Police EOD, Military and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene, and the injured victims were evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment.”
THE WHISTLER gathered that the injured victims were taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where they are currently receiving treatment.
The corpses of the deceased were also deposited at the same hospital.
Following the blast, security operatives cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough sweep for additional explosive devices. No other devices were discovered.
“Police, Military and other security personnel have since cordoned off the area to avoid further infiltration of other suspected bombers,” the source added.
