FCTA demolishes Cashew Garden, illegal shanties in Apo

As part of efforts to safeguard the Federal Capital Territory, the City Sanitation Operation of the FCT has continued its demolition of illegal structures and shanties around the capital city.

“Cashew Garden,” a popular spot in Apo area of the FCT, was demolished by the team.

Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of Development Control, led the demolition exercise.

Assuring residents of security around the FCT, Galadima said the demolition exercise will rid the FCT of criminal elements.

Speaking with newsmen during the operation, Galadima said: “You recall that we were at Zone 3, Wuse, and UTC for similar exercises since the commencement of the operation as directed by the FCT Security Committee.

“Today we are in Apo, dislodging shanties and miscreants posing security threats to residents of the area.”

Galadima disclosed that the FCT Administration never gave occupants of these illegal structures and shanties any authorization.

He warned that FCTA would revoke any land allocation that harbours miscreants committing crime in the FCT.

Mukhtar insisted that the area was designated for residential purposes, stressing that allocations were made but the allottees failed to develop their plots within the stipulated time.

“So, as has been directed by the FCT Security Committee, we are going to take over the area; we are going to possess it,” he said.

Galadima revealed that the area was already planned with a clearly defined road corridor demarcated by a deep trench.

Also, the FCTA Director of Security Services Department, Adamu Gwary, described the demolition as a clean-up exercise.

Gwary said the exercise would make the FCT very hot for criminals and those with such intentions.

Representing the Secretary, Command and Control, Dr. Peter Olumuji, Gwary lamented that some of the miscreants deal in illicit drugs.
