FCT Police On High Alert Over Planned Attack By Okada Riders
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has responded to a viral voice note making the rounds on social media, which alleged that commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as Okada riders, are plotting a violent attack against task force officials in the Kubwa area on Friday, July 11, 2025.
The voice note, purportedly recorded by an anonymous resident, raised the alarm on Thursday, July 10. The resident warned of an alleged coordinated plan by Okada riders from Suleja, Dutse, and Dawaki to storm Kubwa in retaliation against task force members who have been seizing motorcycles and disrupting their operations.
“Good evening, everybody. I’m using this opportunity to talk to all the landlords and residents in Kubwa. If you have any friends or family members around Kubwa, tell them to be careful,” the anonymous speaker said.
“I got to Kubwa very late this evening. It happened that the bike I entered, as we were discussing, he told me that there is going to be a fight between the Okada people and the task force tomorrow, and that the meeting is being held somewhere right now. The bikers in Suleja, Dutse, and Dawaki are converging in Kubwa for the fight.
“He said that Task Force people are disturbing them from doing their work, they are arresting them and collecting their motorcycles. Over 200 bikes have been collected between Wednesday and Thursday.
“The bike man said they told them that anybody who has a gun, cutlass, or knife should bring it along, that the agreement is that either the Task Force kills them or they kill the Task Force officials. I’m saying this so it can get to the DPO and the right authorities so they can mobilise police to be on standby to stop this planned violent protest. At the end of the day, it’s their customers or the masses that will suffer much of the pain. Today is Thursday, July 10, 2025. I’m giving the date so that people won’t think it’s an old message.”
Reacting on Friday, the FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, acknowledged receipt of the audio and issued a stern warning to those allegedly involved.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that such conduct amounts to criminality and will be met with the full weight of the law. Any person or group involved in planning, instigating, or contemplating carrying out any form of violent protest or attack on any law enforcement officials, under whatever guise, is hereby sternly warned to immediately abort such plans,” Adeh said.
She added that the FCT Police Command has both the “capacity and the resolve” to protect law enforcement officers and residents within the territory.
“Let it be clear: this is not a threat but a firm assurance. The Command will not hesitate to deploy all lawful means, including arrests, prosecution, and necessary force, to deal decisively with perpetrators of public disorder,” she stated.
She noted that the police have announced an increased deployment of officers and operational assets in and around the Kubwa axis. According to the command, this is a purely preventive measure and should not be interpreted as a sign of panic.
