FCT Police List 15 Black Spots, Arrest 348 Suspects
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has listed 15 black spots following raids aimed at preventing crime and protecting infrastructures in the city.
The police, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, highlighted the areas to include Apo-Dutse Panteka, Diplomatic Zone, New PDP Secretariat, Kabusa Panteka, Ajakaita (Tungan-Maje) and Abuja-Kaduna Road.
Other areas include Jabi Panteka, Apo-Waru Panteka, Area 1 (Monkey Village), Durumi Village, Gwarimpa, Angwan Tivi and Mpape (Mashafa and Shishinpe villages).
Others also include Durumi III (Burukutu Garden), Mabushi (Gishiri Village), Kubwa (by Pipeline and NEPA Road) and Maitama (under the Transcorp Bridge).
The police said the daily raid on these areas resulted in the arrest of 348 suspects for various criminal activities. Also, the police said 320 suspects were prosecuted and charged in court.
During the raid, the statement noted that operatives seized 10 trucks loaded with vandalised metals and recovered 26 manhole covers and 20 solar/streetlight poles to ensure the restoration of critical public infrastructure.
The police said it further confiscated large quantities of AEDC armoured cables suspected of Indian hemp substance and assorted hard drugs. It also recovered 11 firearms.
Giving reasons for the daily raid, the police said it aim to prevent crime by targeting criminal black spots to deter and prevent crimes before they occur, ensuring a safer environment for residents.
To protect infrastructure, the police said it plans to disrupt activities that lead to the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure such as manhole covers, streetlights, and power cables.
Others include curtailing drug abuse and trafficking, thereby disrupting the supply chain and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
