The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday, disbursed N13.4m to the families of ten police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the IGP at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri, under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme.

The compensation aims to ease the financial burden on families of the deceased personnel and provide some level of stability for their dependents.

During the presentation, CP Abdulmajid urged the beneficiaries to channel the funds into sustainable investments that would secure the long-term welfare of their families.

He also assured them of continued support from the Police Force.

According to him, “The sacrifices made by these heroes would never be forgotten, and the Force remains dedicated to ensuring the well-being of the families they left behind.”

The Commissioner also offered condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated the IGP’s commitment to the welfare of both serving officers and the families of fallen ones.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Jerry Joel, who spoke on behalf of the families, described the gesture as “timely and reassuring”.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that of the 422 reported cases of security personnel’s death, over 276 were members of the armed forces and 122 were police personnel, in the period ending May 2024.

Also, in 2024, the IGP disbursed the sum of N2.09bn to 785 beneficiaries and next of kin of police officers, who died in active service.
