Fabio Capello Backs Ademola Lookman to Remain Key for Atalanta Despite Failed Move
Former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello has urged Nigerian international Ademola Lookman to continue playing a key role for Atalanta despite increased competition for attacking positions.
Speaking to Italian media, Capello stated that Gian Piero Gasperini cannot ignore Lookman because of his versatility and ability to perform well in crucial games.
With two goals in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, the 26-year-old attacker was instrumental in Atalanta’s victory last season and remains one of Ivan Juric’s most reliable players.
Capello maintains that Lookman, who is still training separately from his teammates at the club due to his failed transfer to Inter, will be an important member of the Bergamo squad this summer.
“The Lookman affair is a significant one,” Capello told Tutto Napoli.
“We’re talking about a player who has made a significant impact in recent years, both in terms of goals and assists. If he were to stay, he would still be a key figure. If he were to leave, however, Atalanta would be forced to reinvent much of their attacking potential.”
“Lookman is a player who can still make the difference,” Capello noted. “Even if Atalanta have strengthened in attack, his pace, creativity, and decisiveness in the final third mean he will always be important.”
