Ex-Ogun Gov Osoba Talks Tough, Says Tinubu Must Serve 8 Years For Yoruba

Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has said President Bola Tinubu must serve eight years of two terms for the Yoruba as he did not make himself president.
Osoba urged the Yoruba, especially those in their ancestral land in the southwest to rally round the president to ensure the realisation of the eight years in office, something that consumed MKO Abiola he said.
He said the journey to make Tinubu president was arrived at in 2007 after Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola failed to clinch the exalted position.
Osoba stated this at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South West Zone Assembly meeting held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos over the weekend, the video, which has gone viral on X/Twitter.
The assembly was attended by political leaders and was hosted by the Lagos State Governor and Coordinator of the group in the southwest, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The keynote address was delivered by former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
Osoba argued that, “Bola (Tinubu) didn’t make himself the President of Nigeria; we did.”
Going down memory lane, Osoba said, “Seventeen years ago, in 2007, after his tenure as the governor of Lagos State, we gathered at a luncheon organised by Alhaji Hamsa, our leader in the South West at that time. It was at that meeting we collectively decided that Bola should move from Lagos politics to the national stage, to represent the interests of the Yoruba people at the topmost level of
Nigerian politics.”
He reflected on the journey to the presidency stating, “Many of us here today worked tirelessly to support the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s quest for the presidency, but he wasn’t allowed to get there.
“Similarly, we rallied behind the late MKO Abiola’s presidential ambition, but we lost him, and with him, the opportunity. They killed many of us because of our mission to make this country better.
“But we thank God that some of us are still alive to witness Bola Tinubu’s success.”
Calling on all the Yoruba to rally round the president, Osoba said, “Now that Bola Tinubu is there, I want to plead with all of you to accept his shortcomings. He will do better. After his first four-year term, he will serve another four years as a Yoruba son.”
Osoba reiterated that, “The South West Assembly’s message is clear – the Yoruba leadership stands united behind Tinubu’s presidency and remains confident in his ability to deliver on his promises during his tenure.
