Ex-Edo varsity Acting VC dies weeks after handing over to successor
The immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyahmo, Prof Dawood Egbefo, is dead.
Egbefo died about two weeks after handing over to the new Vice Chancellor.
DAILY POST reports that the spokesman of the university, Amaechi Kelly Quincy, disclosed this in a post on the institution’s Facebook page.
The state government had on August 8, 2025, announced the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor, Victor Adetimirin Olawale, for the institution.
Egbefo, who was the Acting Vice Chancellor, formally handed over to Olawale on August 11, 2025.
Egbefo reportedly died on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The cause of his death was not disclosed.
The statement described the late Professor Egbefo as a distinguished scholar, an astute administrator and a mentor to many within the academic community.
According to the statement, the late acting Vice Chancellor’s dedication, humility, and commitment to the advancement of education left an indelible mark in the history of the university.
The management of the institution extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, friends, and the entire academic community.
