EU officials trying to control European nations – Hungarian PM Orban

European Union officials being paid for their duties are trying to control member states, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban protested on Tuesday.

In his statement on X, Orban alleged that the financial burden placed on the countries by the EU was an attempt to take over their autonomy.

“They want to use the war in Ukraine as the pretext to shackle us all financially,” Orban wrote on the social network.

The EU bureaucrats, according to the PM, are pushing “joint indebtedness” to strip nations of their sovereignty to create “a United States of Europe.”

Orban advised allies to look beyond the battlefield, asking whether the right thing is to “free nations” or submit to “unelected bureaucrats.”

The PM said that instead of playing the role of coordinators, while individual nations hold the power of decision, EU officials have been acting above their offices.

Orban further accused the “Brusselian elite” of making efforts to fast-track Ukraine’s EU accession but ignoring the criteria and the economic consequences.

Citing the agreement of the union’s parliament members, he warned that enlargement should not be based on double standards or sacrificing Europe’s economy.

The prime minister similarly criticized the EU leadership last month, advising the headquarters in Brussels to serve sovereign nations, not to rule them.
