EPL: Neville changes top-four prediction, picks title winners

Gary Neville, former Manchester United captain, has admitted that the results of the Premier League match-day one has led to a remarkable change to his top-four predictions this season.

Recall that Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2, while Manchester City won 4-0 against Wolves.

Arsenal overcame Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, the outcome of Arsenal’s win against the Red Devils, has led Neville to rethink one of his predictions for the new season.

The Englishman had last week tipped Ruben Amorim’s side to finish in sixth position this term.

But after watching his old club against the Gunners, the retired footballer believes they will surprise people by finishing in the top-four behind the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City this season.

“When I watched [Manchester] United [against Arsenal], I thought the performance was very good and I think they’ll get a goalkeeper,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“When you bring a goalkeeper in, and you’ve those players up front with that front line and you’ve no European football, I think they’ll surprise people [by finishing in the top-four].

“Last week I had them finishing sixth to eighth, but I thought the performance was really good and I genuinely liked it.

“Yesterday [Sunday] was a loss but I value performances and if they perform like that, they will win a lot of football matches.”

When asked to pick his title winners, Neville admitted that Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal all have equal chances of winning it.

He, however, insisted that the signing of Viktor Gyokeres could help Arsenal win the domestic league title ahead of the Reds and the Cityzens.

“I think they [Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal] are all in with an equal chance so I’ve got no certainty that Arsenal are going to win it,” Neville added.

“I think they’ve got the right materials, they are just going to have to sort that forward bit of the pitch out and I think Viktor [Gyokeres] will.”
