The authorities of Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, weekend, said all security apparatuses had been activated to tackle the increasing cases of kidnapping in the once-peaceful LGA.

THE WHISTLER reports that the latest kidnap incident in the area occurred on Friday at Iyi Nzu in Ezimo community. The kidnappers had struck around 6pm of the fateful day, whisking away two persons in the process. The abductees are yet to be released as at the time of filing this report.

Against this background, the council area said security had been beefed up to forestall such occurrences, and to rescue those in captivity.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the council chairman on media, Mr Jude Eze, which was made available to newsmen at the weekend.

The statement read, “The attention of Udenu Local Government Council has been drawn to an unfortunate incident of kidnapping that occurred along Iyi Nzu Road in Ezimo Community.

“The Chairman, Aka Eze Aka, upon receiving the report, immediately alerted all relevant security agencies. The government assures the good people of Ezimo and Udenu at large that there is no cause for panic. Security operatives have been fully mobilized to track the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of any victims.”

The council chairman, in the statement, urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security post.

Aside from the Ezimo kidnap case, it was gathered that some natives of Imilike Etiti in the same LGA were kidnapped some weeks ago.
