Enugu Lawmaker Gives EFCC Ultimatum To Return Forfeited Ex-Governor’s Property To State
A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly representing Igbo Eze South State Constituency, Hon Harrison Ogara, Monday, threatened to drag the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to court for handing over the recovered property of a former Governor of the state, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, to the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) instead of the state.
Ogara, in a letter addressed to the chairman of the anti-graft agency, dated 2nd July, 2025, entitled, “Forfeiture and Handing Over of Property of Ex-Governor Chimaroke Nnamani to AMCON”, stated that “there was no nexus between the issues arising from the forfeited property in Enugu State linked to ex-governor Nnamani and AMCON”.
He, therefore, demanded the return of “all those properties handed over to AMCON to Enugu State within seven days”.
He stated that, “As a representative of the people of Igbo Eze South (part owners of the recovered assets), I have been inundated with several calls as to why your commission should hand over the assets belonging to the government and good people of Enugu State to AMCON.”
He recalled that in April 2024, EFCC had handed over 14 properties linked to former Governor Nnamani initially forfeited to the Federal Government back to the government of Enugu State without any information to the House of Assembly till date.
He also alleged in the letter that looted funds seized by the EFCC, “including N400m from Sam Ejiofor’s overhead tank, had not been unaccounted for till date”.
Quoting Ogara, “Again, we are seeing a handover of another set of property of the people of Enugu State to an unknown body that has no bearing with the assets recovery litigations that had lingered in court for close to two decades.
“Failure to comply with this demand, I would have no choice than to seek redress before a court of competent jurisdiction and relying on the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.”
The property, as listed by EFFC via its X, are one bungalow, one warehouse and three duplexes, all located at Number 3/4 Pocket Estate, Independence Layout, Enugu; 12 rooms of one storey semi-detached building located at Number 35B Abakaliki Road, Enugu; one duplex of six rooms, located at Number 3A, Mount Street, Park Avenue, Enugu, and one duplex of six rooms, located at 3C Mount Street, Park Avenue, Enugu.
