Hon Ugwueze during his visit to the scene

The Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon Ferdinand Ugwueze, has condemned the alleged murder of four children at Ibagwa-Aka, the headquarters of the council.

Hon. Ugwueze expressed his anger after visiting the scene of the incident on the weekend. He charged security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the matter with a view to bringing the culprit to book.

He stated that “Towards the evening hours of Friday, the 16th day of May, 2025, our community was shaken by the tragic and heinous murder of four innocent children in Ibagwa-Aka, Igbo-Eze South LGA. I am deeply saddened by this act of senseless violence and extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the victims.”

Ugwueze said he visited the crime scene on Saturday, accompanied by security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other relevant operatives.

He revealed that preliminary investigations by security operatives led to the arrest of several key suspects while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others who remain at large. He stated that a facility alleged to have been used for illegal herbal medicine practices, unlicensed psychiatric services, and other spiritual activities believed to be linked to the suspects had been shut down.

The council chairman wrote, “Following preliminary investigations, law enforcement agencies have apprehended some key suspects in connection with the crime while still searching for others yet at large.

“Additionally, the premises alleged to be used for unauthorised herbal medicine operations, rendering of informal psychiatric services and other yet-to-be-fully-explained spiritual activities alleged to be linked to the prime suspects and the crime scene have been sealed by the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Authority pending the outcome of the investigation report by the police.”

He said his administration would provide the necessary support to bring the perpetrators to book, adding that “I wish to assure the people of Igbo-Eze South that we will continue to collaborate closely with security agencies to strengthen surveillance, enhance community safety, and prevent such grievous incidents from recurring.”

THE WHISTLER learnt that the incident occurred at Eche Ezama community of Ibagwa Aka. The victims are identified as Kamsiyochukwu Ezema (7), Ezinne Ezema (6), Ujunwa Ezema (5), and Chinedu Ezema (2). They were reportedly attacked and killed with a pestle inside their family residence.

It was alleged that a pastor of a church within the community is among those arrested over the incident.
