Enugu Assembly Moves To Sanction Telecom Operators Over Drop-Calls

The Enugu State House of Assembly has called for urgent actions against persistent drop-calls and poor telecom service delivery in the state

It also threatened to summon telecom operators to explain why they should not refund all subscribers that lost their money through drop-calls

This was contained in a motion sponsored by the member representing Igbo-Eze South State Constituency, Mr Harrison Ogara, during a plenary.

While quoting data from the National Bureau of Statistics and the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Mr Ogara stated that Nigeria had over 219 million active telecom subscribers with a large portion of them residing in Enugu.

The lawmaker regretted that despite the booming telecom market, users in the state have continued to face repeated drop- calls, which occur when conversations are terminated while still charging the caller’s credit.

According to him, the people are being shortchanged and forced to pay for services not rendered, describing it as an economic sabotage.

The House, while stepping down the motion, set up a three-man committee to harmonise the four prayers sought by it and further directed the committee to submit its report on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 for a possible adoption.
